1747 – Whippany Presbyterian members form local congregation in Bottle Hill.

1749 – Presbyterian meetinghouse built at Hillside Cemetery (see above).


 

     
     

 

1803 – Local Methodists begin meeting in private homes.

1809 – First Catholic mass celebrated in Park Avenue home of Lavielle Duberceau.


 

     
     

 

1825 – Presbyterians build new church (now Masonic Lodge) opposite Hillside Cemetery.

1839 – St. Vincent the Martyr Church on Ridgedale Avenue dedicated.


 

     
     

 

1843 – Methodist Church holds first services at Waverly Place.

1852 – Local Episcopalians start meeting at Colonel S.D.Hunting’s home.


 

     
     

 

1853 – Union Church at Cherry Hill founded in Fairwoods neighborhood.

1854 – Grace Episcopal Church begins worship in Oriental Hall on Waverly Place.


 

     
     

 

1857 – Grace Episcopal Church consecrated on Madison Avenue.

 

1871 – United Methodist Church built on Madison Avenue.


 

     
     

 

1885 – Union Church at Cherry Hill reorganized as Bethel A.M.E. Church on Central Avenue.

1888 – Webb Memorial Chapel built by James and Margaretta Webb in memory of their son.

 


 

     
     

 

1895 – Baptist Mission founded; reorganized in 1896 as First Baptist Church.

1902 – First Baptist Church members hold first service on Cook Avenue.


 

     
     

 

1905 – St. Vincent the Martyr Church built on Green Village Road.

1953 – Madison Presbyterian sanctuary built on Green Avenue.


 

     
     

 

1960 – Madison Baptist Church founded on Green Avenue.
