COG (Children of God) is our youth group, consisting of young teens and ‘tweens. Meeting on Friday evenings as our children’s busy schedules permit, we strive to incorporate spirit-engaging activities with a good dose of physical fun. It is important for youth of a certain age to be able to form a relationship with the church and the people in the congregation apart from their parents.
Typically we will start our meeting with a time of sharing--situations where we have particularly felt the presence of God in the preceding week. We enjoy ice-breaking activities, group prayers, acting out Bible stories, doing art projects, and playing physical games. Occasionally we watch a thought-provoking film. One of the most fun activities of the year past was a progressive dinner, beginning at the home of Pastor and Lee Wood, and ending at a COG member’s home, with a visit to a local Columbian restaurant sandwiched in between. We have also visited different types of worship services and have done service projects in conjunction with our Confirmation class.
Looking forward to 2008-2009, our challenge will be to find ways to include the older teens as well as the younger ones. We are anticipating more local service projects, participating in serving meals in a homeless shelter and a soup kitchen. We have a great group of young people, and we are eager to see where God leads us!
